Dover is one of the safest cities in New Jersey State with the crime rate of 0.016% annually. However, despite how low the percentage looks, that is still 298 reported cases of crime happen annually in Dover town. So locking your door is an absolute must to protect your home. However, are the traditional key and lock still safe enough for you and your family in the times that even criminals are tech-savvy? It is time to consider smarter alternatives for your door lock.
Nowadays, electronic door locks are very affordable and they come in many different forms to accompany the different needs and preferences of homeowners.
- Keypad lock: The most traditional form of electronic locks is keypad lock. Using keypad lock means you never have to worry about losing or forgetting your keys. Thanks to that advantage, keypad locks, despite being one of the first electronic locks invented, are still popular today. Some newer models can come with touchscreen panels.
- RFID lock: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) locks use radio waves to open the doors. It often comes with key fob or card. Unlike the card system at hotels, the RFID will automatically recognize the key device when it’s close, so you don’t even have to take your keys out of your pocket to get the door unlocked. Many RFID locks also come with an additional, backup way to open the door in case you lose your keys. As convenient as this is, RFID’s disadvantage is that it still requires a key.
- Bluetooth lock: Similar to RFID, Bluetooth locks also use a wireless wave signal to open the door for you. The door lock will be connected to your smartphones or other Bluetooth devices. With Bluetooth, you don’t need any extra accessories like keys or cards to open the door. The device will also come with a backup plan so you can still get in the house even when your phone runs out of battery.
- Biometric or Fingerprint lock: Fingerprint lock is considered one of the safest locks there is on the home lock market. As the name suggests, you will use your fingerprint to get into the house. You don't need any keys, cards, and nobody can copy your pin code to access the house. The system will only unlock the doors for people whose fingerprints are pre-registered.
